Where to Find Your Fender Serial Number

Neck Plate

Common on many guitars from the mid-1950s through 1970s. Includes 4-6 digit styles, L-series, and large-F plate eras.

Bridge Plate

Seen on early Telecaster-family instruments and some reissues. Early ranges are often approximate because assignment was not strictly sequential.

Front of Headstock

Common for many guitars from late 1970s into mid-1990s. Prefixes like S/E/N help estimate decade.

Back of Headstock

Common on many modern instruments. Prefixes such as Z, US, MX, MN, and MZ are often used for era and factory context.

Back of Neck Heel

Frequently used on Japan-made models. Confirm with model stamp and construction details for accurate dating.

Tremolo Cover Plate

Very early Stratocasters may have serials here. This can indicate exceptionally early production context and should be reviewed carefully.

Serial Format Tables (Quick Reference)

Use these as a first-pass guide. Exact dating often needs neck, pickup, and potentiometer verification.
